There are a number of people earning 15k per month in Nairobi. This salary is so little and if you don’t plan well, you’ll end up surviving on loans and debts. It’s important to learn how to survive with such little amount of money.

To begin with, you need financial discipline for you to manage the income effectively. One thing to avoid is taking alcohol. You should also avoid having many girlfriends. If you are a lady, it’s easy to manage 15k because you’ll seek financial assistance from a man when you’re broke.

There was a time I used to earn Ksh 15,000 in Nairobi. I looked for a single room in Kayole which I used to pay Ksh 3,000 rent every month. I also ensured that my workplace was not far, I spent Ksh 80 per day for transport. I used to do shopping of Ksh 4,000 per month. I avoided unnecessary expenses like eating roasted meat on the road or mutura.I strictly followed my budget.

During that time I used to work in Nairobi CBD, I could walk to Donholm and board a vehicle to town, I used to spend Ksh 30 in the morning.

In case you want to reduce transport cost, buy a motorcycle or bicycle to use. This one will ensure that you’ll spend less than Ksh 3,000 per month on transport.

In Nairobi, if you spend Ksh 4,000 on rent, Ksh3, 000 on food and other shopping, Ksh 3000 on transport and Ksh2, 000 miscellaneous, you’ll remain with Ksh3, 000 to save. But it’s very hard to save when your salary is just 15k.

To be on the safer side, look for a side hustle to do after work, like selling mandazi or cakes in estates, running a small grocery, doing online jobs or hawking items. You can also sell items online.

If you decide to make money online, you can start a blog or a YouTube channel. Blogging is the best thing to do because it assures you of recurring income. To start your own blog, click here to visit HostPinnacle and register a domain name

One thing I almost forgot is that you should avoid mobile loans. It’s better to borrow from friends than from mobile loan companies. When you make it a habit of borrowing from mobile loan companies, you become addicted and eventually drain your income.
