Fred Matiangi is expected to contest for President in 2027. Below are some of the scandals associated with him:
Ruaraka Land Scandal (2018): Alleged Sh3.2 billion irregular payment for 13.5 acres in Ruaraka, Nairobi, for Ruaraka High and Drive-In Primary schools. As Education CS, Matiang’i facilitated the deal with Afrison Export and Import Ltd and Huelands Ltd. EACC halted Sh1.7 billion, citing fraud and public land misuse. Matiang’i was summoned by EACC and Parliament but claims due process. No charges or convictions yet.
Toxic Sugar Seizure (2018): 2024 court testimony accused Matiang’i, as Interior CS, of rigging 2018 seizure of Egyptian sugar imports, labeled toxic with alleged mercury. Claimed to shield cartels, despite sugar being unsafe. Involves KRA and KEBS; no direct evidence links Matiang’i. Case under review, no charges filed.
Human Rights Abuses: Accusations from 2024–2025 claim Matiang’i, as Interior CS, oversaw extrajudicial killings (Baby Pendo 2017, Kianjokoma brothers 2021, River Yala bodies).
