Masinde Barasa is the name of the police officer who was captured on camera shooting a person selling face masks in Nairobi. Masinde,who was recently recruited to the police,shot without provocation. The face mask seller was Boniface Kariuki.
Boniface was standing outside a building at Moi Avenue when two police officers,Masinde and Duncan Kiprono approached him. Kiprono slapped him and when Kariuki tried to run away,Barasa shot him ,sending him to the ground. He was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital in critical condition.
A statement from the police indicates that the two officers were arrested and will be arraigned in court today. They will face attempted murder charges.
Yesterday,Kenyans were demonstrating against the killing of Albert Ojwang. They were demanding for the resignation of Eliud Lagat. The Deputy Inspector General had stepped aside instead of resigning.
