Robert Alai has openly expressed jealous towards Babu Owino’s education background. Alai claims that the reason why Babu has pursued many degrees is because he is incompetent—he has done nothing for his subjects.
On his Facebook page,Alai wrote this:
“When you are an incompetent legislator, you enroll for multiple courses to compensate for your actual professional incompetence.
You won’t get competence in legilation, oversight and representation. You will get only Tibim and Tialala. So to blind you, a sprinkle of irrelevant qualifications plus streaming useless lessons so as to blind the very foolish public.
The biggest enemy of Kenya is the average voter who doesn’t see beyond this nonsense”
Robert Alai is the current MCA for Kileleshwa,he was elected in 2022. Alai is fighting Babu because he is vying for Nairobi Governor seat in 2027. Owino is expected to win the seat.

Education Background:
Babu Owino began his academic journey at Kisumu Township Primary School from 1995 to 2002. He then attended Kisumu Boys High School between 2003 and 2006 for his secondary education.
He later joined the University of Nairobi, where he pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Actuarial Science, graduating with First Class Honors in 2012. He continued at the same institution for a Master’s degree in Actuarial Science between 2013 and 2017.
In addition to his actuarial studies, Babu enrolled for a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree and was officially admitted to the Bar as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya on May 23, 2025.
Political Career:
Babu Owino’s political journey began at the University of Nairobi, where he was elected Chairperson of the Student Organization of Nairobi University (SONU). He served multiple terms from 2011 to 2016, becoming one of the longest-serving and most prominent student leaders in Kenyan history.
In 2017, Babu was elected as the Member of Parliament for Embakasi East Constituency under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party. He was re-elected in the 2022 general elections. Babu Owino has been involved in several controversial incidents:
In 2017, he was accused of assaulting a voter during a public altercation.
In 2018, he was involved in another incident where he allegedly assaulted a parking attendant.
In 2019, he clashed physically with fellow MP Charles “Jaguar” Njagua in Parliament.
Most notably, in January 2020, Babu was arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting DJ Evolve at a Nairobi nightclub. He spent several days in remand before being released on bail. The matter was later settled out of court, though it remains one of the most talked-about cases in his political life.
