Multichoice, which owns Dstv, have announced that they will increase subscription fees for customers who rely on the pay TV services.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MultiChoice Africa Mr. Tim Jacobs stated on Wednesday that they are going to adopt the new model starting October 1, 2015

The new model will see each Dstv customer in Kenya paying subscription fee of KSh 9,400 per month which is way above the current fees of about Ksh 5,000.

Kenyans have protested the decision by the continent’s top pay-tv service, many threatening to cross over to Bamba TV and Startimes.

However, the Consumers Federation of Kenya (COFEK) has launched a petition against Multichoice, which aims at compelling the company to reduce the charges. The petition is expected to land in court next week.
