Kenyans were shocked to learn on Monday that Bungoma County paid Ksh 109,000 for a single wheelbarrow.
The wheelbarrow, whose normal price is Ksh 5,000, was purchased in August from a local supplier.
Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka explained that during the tendering process, several suppliers quoted above Ksh 109, 000, but the county settled on the one costing Ksh 109,000.
The county purchased a total of 10 wheelbarrows, which costed Bungoma county government a total of Ksh 1,090,000.
