There was tension in Kitengela when locals went to the streets to protest over allocation of business space to outsiders in the town.
The indigenous community claimed that the Kajiado County Government had allocated almost the entire business space to outsiders leaving them with nothing.
The community engaged police in running battles and tried to eject traders from the trading areas in the town.
Police were forced to use tear gas and live bullets to disperse the crowd which was determined to eject non locals out of the fast growing town completely.
Businesses in the town remained closed for the better part of the day as traders feared looting from the angry locals.
