Instagram has officially overtaken Twitter in number of users with an estimated 405 million users worldwide.
The company announced on Tuesday that the photo sharing app has grown exponentially since it was acquired by Facebook 2012 for $1 billion. The number of users are expected to hit 500 million at the end of the year.
The growth of Instagram is attributed to the rising improvement in smartphone cameras since 2010 and the ease at which you can add filters and share photos with friends through the app.
Besides Instagram, Facebook also owns WhatsApp with 900 million users. Twitter on the other hand has been facing many challenges, the most recent being the delay in naming the new CEO.
