President Uhuru Kenyatta left on Thursday night for New York to attend the 70th Session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) amid speculations that he will skip the important event.
“I have left for New York to attend the 70th Session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Tomorrow, I will attend a summit where the UN is expected to adopt the new post-2015 development agenda, enshrined in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). I will make sure Kenya’s voice is heard as the world adopts the new development agenda, completing a process which Kenya has actively participated in”, reads his Facebook Page in Parts
There were speculations that Uhuru might not attend the summit because he is afraid of being impeached in Parliament. One of the popular bloggers, Robert Alai, had indicated earlier that the CORD impeachment motion has been given an okay by Deputy President William Ruto.He further claimed that Uhuru’s absence will give Ruto opportunity to organize for Uhuru’s impeachment so that he can easily ascend to power.
Uhuru’s decision to attend the summit put to end the infamous speculations and confirmed that Ruto is not into the impeachment motion.
