Kenya’s national football team Harambee Stars failed to travel to Cape Verde on Monday after FKF officials refused to book a flight for the players.
The players were scheduled to depart at 10.30 am but FKF dilly dallied until late in the afternoon when it was discovered that the players won’t travel after all. Sources close to the management indicate that the federation is facing financial constraints; they could not even afford to pay the players allowances despite FKF promising to pay before the team departs for Cape Verde.
The players are now stranded at Wilson Airport; others have left after a series of disappointments.FKF officials have promised to do everything to ensure the team departs at night.
Harambee Stars made Kenyans proud last week when they beat the highly rated Cape Verde 1-0 at Nyayo National Stadium. Football lovers had hopes that the team would advance to group stages if they could either beat or draw with Cape Verde.
