President Uhuru Kenyatta has started his vote hunting mission for the 2017 State House race. Over the weekend, he was in Western Kenya to launch various projects in the region in order to ‘bring back’ the Luhya community to the winning side.
Uhuru never expected to receive warm reception, especially at this time when he is under pressure to sack Waiguru who has tainted the name of the Government, receiving negative global attention. The President made several stops on his way to Western Kenya and he couldn’t believe his eyes when he was cheered and called ‘baba’ throughout the trip.
The son of Kenyatta later addressed a mammoth crowd at Lwakhakha where he opened a border post. During his address, he hinted that more projects, even the stalled ones, will be opened soon. He also issued a cheque of Sh300 million to bail out Nzoia Sugar Company, which was almost collapsing due to poor management.
On Sunday, before attending a church service in Kisumu, he met with 5 Western Kenya Governors at State House Nairobi, who promised to work with him to eradicate poverty in their jurisdictions once and for all. The Governors promised to be regular visitors of State House until all projects in Western Kenya are completed. They hinted that if their people get what they want, Uhuru will get their full support in 2017, which will leave Raila crying again.
