Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru has finally stepped aside to allow independent investigations into corruption allegations at her ministry.
Waiguru,who is Uhuru’s most favourite Cabinet Secretary, has been under pressure to quit her position following the loss of Sh791 million from the National Youth Service.
While tendering her resignation, the outgoing minister defended herself by claiming she’s as clean as Jesus. However, she stated that due to public pressure, she had no option but to quit.
Her resignation comes barely a week after NYS Director Nelson Githinji resigned to pave way for investigations.
Anne Waiguru will be remembered for initiating the ambitious Huduma Centre Program, which was awarded by the United Nations for being the most innovative program in 2014.
This is Anne Waiguru’s full resignation statement:
“Following my doctor’s advice, I have requested His Excellency the President, Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta to relieve me of the responsibilities of the Cabinet Secretary for Devolution and Planning and should he find it fit, to accord me such lighter duties as he shall deem appropriate.
I wish to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the President for giving me an opportunity to serve in this critical Ministry, the team at the ministry that have made my work easier, and the many Kenyans who have supported me in this difficult time.
I wish the team at the Ministry the very best as they continue to steer their departments to greater heights in the service of this great Nation”
