There has been a standoff between the Teachers Service Commission and Kenyan teachers following President Uhuru’s directive requiring the teachers’ employer to release September salaries without conditions.However,teacher have waited for the pay with bathed breath but hopes of recovering the money have faded away with time.
There is good news here indicating that TSC is currently processing the pay which they will release together with the December salaries. TSC has written to the Treasury to release Sh10.8 billion to enable them pay the teachers.
TSC Chief Executive Officer, Nancy Macharia, has assured teachers that they will receive their September salaries in December. She has also thanked them for their patience.
The body refused to release September salaries when teachers were on strike, arguing that no one should be paid if they didn’t perform their duties. Only 40,000 teachers were paid out of 288,000 teachers. The more than 250,000 teachers who did not receive their salaries will be paid before Christmas.
