Former 800 metres champion Caster Semenya married his long-term girlfriend, Ga-Dikgale, over the weekend in the Capricorn District of Limpopo.
The couple had been engaged for three years and opted to make their union permanent by tying the knot as early as 2015.
Semenya won gold in the women’s 800 metres at the 2009 World Championships. She also won silver medals at the 2011 World Championships and the 2012 Summer Olympics. However, many questions were raised over his gender, prompting officials to perform physical examination to prove whether indeed he was a female. It was later confirmed that she was transgender, thus putting to the end the debate.
The athlete has not been actively involved in the 800 m race since he won in 2012 Summer Olympics.
