For a long time Kenyans have taken Martha Karua seriously when she mentions the word corruption only to realize, too late, she also received donations she didn’t know the source in 2013.
The former Gichugu Member of Parliament has admitted she received a donation from Mr Paul Hopkins, a former soldier with the Irish Special Forces who worked for BAT in Africa for 13 years.Karua added that she accepted the donation as part of the funds for her 2013 campaign.However,she denies knowledge of any corrupt deals as indicated by Mr Hopkins.
The Independent, a UK Newspaper, had published a story implicating Martha Karua on bribery claims involving the politician and BAT. According to the newspaper,Karua received Sh5.5 million from BAT to help the company win a Tobacco tender.
Karua has vowed to sue the newspaper for publishing false information against her.
