Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua launched Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement on Saturday 2,2016 at Machakos People’s Park, sending red signals to Cord Co-Principal Kalonzo Musyoka.
Mutua, who is wanted by EACC for engaging in corruption, officially ditched Wiper Democratic Movement and announced allegiance to President Uhuru Kenyatta.
During the launch, the Governor said the movement will bring a new dawn in Ukambani. He added that for the first time, the people of Ukambani will see electricity, water, food, good roads and even wealth.
The Governor heavily criticized Kalonzo Musyoka for neglecting his people despite being in power forever. He challenged the CORD Co-Principal to show what he did for his people all the years he was in government.
Despite forming the movement, Mutua is likely to face a heavy storm in Ukambani.Sources from the ground indicate that people need jobs, food and water; not the people’s park and short-lived roads.Mutua has neither provided jobs nor enough food for the starving locals.
It is believed that the Eastern Kenya people still believe Uhuru’s government has sidelined them as the President offer plum jobs to his friends and leaving common man in abject poverty. Some also have a bone to pick with the President following the way in which he fired former Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu.
Like 2013, Uhuru is likely to have an uphill task in the region.
