Reports reaching us indicate that Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko is unhappy with the way Jubilee is conducting itself, months before 2017 general election.
Sonko, who has already declared interest in Nairobi Gubernatorial Seat, was shocked last week when former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru declared publicly that she will challenge the incumbent Evans Kidero for the coveted seat.
Our sources say Sonko is now contemplating vying as independent candidate since he believes Waiguru will be favoured by the party.
The Senator knows that even if he contests as an independent candidate, he will clinch the seat, if not trail Evans Kidero.
As we speak, the seat has attracted a number of candidates, who include Anne Waiguru, Evans Kidero, Dennis Waweru, Mike Sonko, Margaret Wanjiru and Ferdinand Waititu, but those close to Jubilee Party top brass say Waiguru may be favoured by Jubilee while Margaret Wanjiru does not have a chance.ODM on the other hand has settled on Dr.Evans Kidero, who they believe has financial muscle to wrestle anyone Jubilee will front.
What is more shocking is that there is a serious campaign, both within the Jubilee Party and Central Kenya, to have a Kikuyu as the Jubilee candidate to wrestle Kidero.
The people of Mount Kenya, especially businessmen in Nairobi, believe Kidero has made them suffer over the four years he has ruled as Governor. They argue that a Kikuyu will be the best person to take care of their interests. Based on these dynamics, Sonko does not have a chance, if at all he is banking on Jubilee Party for a ticket.
