Uganda’s opposition leader Kizza Besigye has been arrested and detained at Kira Road Police station.
It is alleged that Besigye was heading a procession from Kamwokya to the city centre and refused to adhere to police instructions to use Mukwano Road instead of the busy Jinja Road.
The police used tear gas to disperse a charged crowd which had accompanied the FDC presidential candidate.
This is the second time the Besigye is being arrested in a span of six months. He was arrested in July 2015 for holding a rally without a license, but was later released without being charged.
