Uchumi Supermarkets Limited has closed down five of its few branches in Kenya, marking the beginning of a long frustrating journey of its employees.
The branches to be affected include Taj Mall, Embu, Eldoret Sugarland, Nakuru and Kisii, which contribute significantly to the losses the chain store incurs each year.
“Their closure will enable us channel our resources to fewer branches and optimize operations for maximum gain,” said Kipng’etich.
While making the announcement, Kipng’etich clarified that the branches will be re-opened once the operations are streamlined.
Meanwhile, more than 300 employees working at the branches will lose jobs.
