Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter and other Kenyan officials were on Wednesday denied access to the port of Tanga and their Visa confiscated.
Keter’s passport was seized and his movement limited as the port officials waited for orders from above. The Ugandan officials were however allowed in as Kenyan officials waited for clearance.
“We are basically captives here. They have refused to give us back our passports for about one hour. They have also refused us entry into the port of Tanga,”said Keter
Other officials whose passports were seized are, Petroleum Principal Secretary Andrew Kamau, his Energy counterpart, Mr Joseph Njoroge and Lapsset CEO Sylvester Kasuku, as they attempted to enter the Tanga Port.
Later they were released and ordered back to Kenya.
The Kenyan delegation was in Tanzania to inspect the port of Tanga, which has been proposed as a potential exit point for Uganda’s crude oil.
Tanzania has already signed an agreement with Uganda for the oil pipeline, which has been proposed as a potential exit point for Uganda’s crude oil.
Talks between President Kenyatta and Ugandan President over the issue failed to resolve the issue, prompting the two leaders to schedule for another meeting.
