A degree course has become the basic requirement to getting a job in Kenya, but the cost of studying a degree makes it impossible for many Kenyans to enroll for the course of their choice.
There are many courses you can pursue in Kenyan universities but it all depends on your pocket. For instance, if you want to study Medicine at the University of Nairobi, you must have at least Ksh 1.5 million, which is an uphill task for the poor Kenyans.
Other degrees that require more than Sh 600,000 to complete include Bachelor of Architecture, Bachelor of Civil Engineering, Bachelor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Bachelor of Nursing. Also most courses in Aviation are very expensive to pursue. For instance, an individual requires at least Ksh 2 million to qualify as a Pilot-will you afford all this money?
These courses are expensive because the demand in the job market is high. But the good thing is that there are marketable courses that cost less to pursue. Such courses include Statistics, Bachelor of Economics, Bachelor of Commerce, ECD, Bachelor of Accounting and Bachelor of Business Information Technology.
From our calculations, the average fees required to complete most courses in Kenya is Ksh 500,000.This includes tuition fees and upkeep.
