Police Teargas CORD Leaders After Storming IEBC

CORD leaders, led by Raila Odinga, scampered for safety after meeting with teargas at IEBC offices on Monday morning.

Rala, Kalonzo, Wetangula and other CORD leaders had stormed IEBC offices at Anniversary towers to force the electoral body officials to give up on their duties and allow a new group to conduct the 2017 elections. But the heavy presence of police officers did not allow even their supporters to go past the gate; teargas after teargas forced everyone to scamper for safety, leaving an empty space between University of Nairobi and Anniversary Towers.

IEBC is yet to respond to CORD but Deputy President William Ruto has indicated that the current commissioners will never vacant office until they oversee the 2017 elections.

However, civil society, COTU and several other bodies have indicated they don’t have confidence on the current IEBC officials. They have called for the disbandment of body.
