Google, which owns YouTube, terminated NTV Kenya YouTube channel over copyright breaches.
A message from Google reads:
“NTV Kenya has been terminated because we received multiple third-party claims of copyright infringement regarding material the user posted,” YouTube said in a statement posted on the blocked channel”.
NTV, which is owned by The Nation Media Group, will suffer a huge blow after losing over 280,000 subscribers and revenue in excess of Ksh100, 000 per month. The company will now make an appeal to Google through its lawyers. But chances of regaining the account back are slim, considering that the company had been warned in several occasions not to breach copyright rules as per the terms of agreement signed between NMG and Google.
It is believed that several companies and individuals had reported NMG to Google, but the Aga Khan Media house never acted on the complaints. The result is, termination of YouTube channel.
