President Uhuru Kenyatta is the highest paid civil servant in Kenya but there are Kenyans whose salary is more than that of the president.
According to the Salaries and Renumeration Commission, Uhuru’s basic salary should be Ksh 1, 750, 000, making him among the highest paid presidents in Africa. But that should not worry you at all, what is shocking is that there are Kenyans in the private sector who earn over Ksh 10 million per month.
Safaricom, the most profitable company in East and Central Africa pays its CEO Ksh 10 million per month. This salary is, however, basic.Sources say the same CEO pockets over Ksh 20 million annually as bonuses and dividends.
BAT, which is a big brand in Kenya, also pays the CEO more than Ksh 2.5 million. In this institution, the lowest paid graduate, graduate trainee earns a starting salary of Ksh 120,000 per month.
Kenya Commercial Bank, which is one of the biggest banks in Kenya and among the most profitable institutions in the country, pays its CEO Ksh3.5-Ksh 5 million per month and at least Ksh 20 million in bonuses annually.
Equity Bank CEO, who is also the Executive Director of the bank, earns at least Ksh 5 million per month. On top of the hefty pay, he pockets over Ksh200 million annually in dividends.
Centum Investment Kenya, whose CEO is James Mworia,is also one of the best paid employee in the real estate and investment companies in the country. The company pays highest ranked employee over Ksh 3 million per month as well as over Ksh 30 million annually in dividends.
Another surprising name in this list is Francis Atwoli.Atwoli, who holds more than 3 jobs earns over Ksh 4 million per month. This salary comes from the several boards he sits in as well as International Labour Organization and from Central Organization of Trade Unions.
We also have the head of UNCTAD; Mukhisa Kituyi.According to the salary scales on UN, the former Kibaki government Minister earns at least Ksh 10 million per month.
CFC Stanbic Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, Bamburi Cement, Nation Media Group, Jumia Kenya, Sportpesa and Barclays Bank of Kenya CEOs also earn more than President Uhuru Kenyatta. The salary of the CEOs mentioned above is more than Ksh 2.5 million per month.
There are also many Kenyans not mentioned here who earn more than the president.
