Kenyan teachers are demanding 300 %salary increments. This is after their strike bore aborted in 2015.

The teachers, through Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), have told the government to increase the salary else they vote for opposition leader Raila Odinga in the 2017 elections.

The new salary structure, after the adjustment, will see the lowest paid teacher pocketing  Ksh50, 016 while the highest will go home with  Ksh 218,178

Here is the breakdown of the salaries for all categories:

Job Group                  Current salary (Sh)                            Expected Salary (Sh)
                       Minimum   Maximum                               Minimum       Maximum
G                16,672                 21,304                            50,015            63,912
H                19323                  24,662                           57,969             73,986
J                24,662                29,918                             73,986             89,754
K                31,020                41,596                            93,060             124,788
L                35,910                 44,588                           107,730           137640
M               41,590                 55,840                           124,770           167,520
N               48,190                 60,290                           144,570             180,879
P               77,527                 103,894                         155054             207,788
Q              89,748                 120,270                         179,496            240,540
R              109,089               144,928                          218,178             289,858

Considering the economic situation in Kenya, the salary increment looks realistic in paper but impossible practically. It might take KNUT up to 20 years to reach the 300 % increment target
