The late professor George Saitoti remains the best mathematics professor in Kenya.Saitati, who until he joined politics served as Head of the Mathematics Department at the University of Nairobi, pioneered the founding of the African Mathematical Union and served as its Vice-President from 1976 to 1979.
Prof Saitoti was feared and adored in this area-mathematics. Even at the University of Sussex, Brighton and the University of Warwick, where he studied masters and PhD respectively, Saitoti often led other students in solving complex mathematics equations. In Kenya, after he graduated from the University of Warwick, no black man was willing to challenge the professor-his argument was a law.
Algebraic topology is one of the hardest specializations in mathematics but Saitoti managed to crack several equations under the title “under the topic: Mod-2 K-Theory of the Second Iterated Loop Space on a Sphere”
They say geniuses died long before computer era was realized, Saitoti was among those super human mathematicians.
