Teaching is a noble profession, one of the most popular careers in Kenya. As a teacher you decide to pursue careers which are not in line with your skills but are well-paying. Irrespective of whether you are employed or not, alternative jobs pay better than teaching profession, unless one joins an International school like Brookhouse as a teacher.

Most Kenyans prefer teaching because it guarantees job security, but the fact is: this career will make you an average Kenyan, forever.

Data Analyst/Statistics

This particularly goes to individuals who pursued Mathematics. You can easily become a data analyst if you pursue statistical tools like SPSS, R, STATA and advanced Excel.

As a teacher, your salary is Ksh 30,000-Ksh50, 000 but as a data analyst/statistician, you will earn at least Ksh60, 000.

Graduate Trainee/Management Trainee

Graduate trainee positions are for fresh graduates who join companies for training, leading to employment. These positions are lucrative because they guarantee attractive package.

As a teacher, never hesitate to apply for employment wherever you see positions related to graduate trainee/management trainee.

Banking Careers

Bankers earn 3 times better than teachers in Kenya. As a banker, you will either work in the back office or as a cashier, but regardless of which section you will be assigned, you will always get better pay as compared to teachers.

The salaries of cashiers is averaged at Ksh 55,000 per month for individuals with experience not exceeding 3 years, and Ksh 100,000 for workers with more than 4 years of banking experience.

Teaching in International schools

You should always aim higher, and the sky is the limit-that’s the moto of a successful teacher. International schools pay at least Ksh 70,000 for teachers with undergraduate qualification and at least Ksh45, 000 for teachers with diploma qualification.

These three jobs are suitable for teachers with skills in communication and PR.Even if you haven’t performed duties related to these careers, you can join if you specialized in English and literature, and linguistics.

Accountants/Finance Officer

You can easily become an accountant even if you possess a degree in education. Those who pursue mathematics, business studies and related courses are advised to enroll for CPA, ACCA or CIFA so that they can increase their chances of becoming business professionals.

Sales and Marketing

You don’t have to possess a business related profession to be a marketer, you can join with any degree or diploma course.
