Newcastle player, Florian Thauvin, has been violently attacked by two thugs in France.
Two men who were riding a motorbike hit his car from behind. The player alighted from his car to inspect the damage, only to be attacked by the assailants, who attempted to strangle him.
The player managed to defend himself but lost valuables amounting to £22,000.
The incident happened on Monday evening in the southern city of Marseilles and has put residents and motorists on high alert.
Thauvin joined Newcastle from Marseille for £15million in 2015 but played just 12 games for the Toon before being sent back on loan six months later. He is currently playing for Rudi Garcia and has so far netted three times in 13 games.
