High Court Judge, George Odunga, directed the Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinnet, to arrest Interior PS Karanja Kibicho after he handed the PS three-month jail term.
Karanja was expected to appear in court Monday November 28, 2016 but he failed, prompting the tough judge to execute his mandate’s he always does, he slapped the PS with a harsh punishment, which is rare from Kenyan courts.
Mr Kibicho was ordered to pay Michael Mahugu, a Nyayo House torture victim Ksh 2, 647,019,but he failed to obey the court order. Kinuthia Wandaka, Mahugu’s lawyer later lodged a complaint at the high court..and it landed on Odunga’s desk.
Following court proceedings, Mr Odinga agreed with Mahugu’s lawyer and in the process sought to know what was so hard for the PS to pay the money as ordered by the court.
Judge Odunga is known, he doesn’t smile when it comes to the ruling, his eyes never drop from the ball. Some of the landmark rulings he had made before include one he ruled against security laws. He is also known for dismissing gender rule and many other rulings.
