Do you know you can get a job with a less popular university course? This is what to do.
When you pursue a degree program and later realize it’s not popular, you are shaken, demoralized and totally confused, but with a strategy you can turn your almost useless program into s marketable career. The first thing to do is, ensure you score the best grade in campus.
When you score the best grade, say, First class, you improve your chances of continuing with education to PhD level, where securing employment is much easier. Employers also need sharp people, they will give you first priority when they realize your colorful grades.
Pursue a professional certification
Another easy way of improving your profile is to do a professional certification. If you pursued Actuarial Science and realize the course minus a professional certification is worthless in your country, go ahead and pursue actuarial certificate from the Society of Actuaries. If your course is MBA and you realize it won’t add value to your CV, go ahead and pursue CFA.
Sometimes employers might have skewed thinking, that academic qualification is not appealing without a professional certification.
Volunteer
If you have tried all your best but no employer is willing to employ you better you apply to volunteer. By accepting to volunteer the employer might be sensible enough and offer you a job.
Internship
You can also apply for internship at a company you believe has the potential of employing you. Even if you have overstayed minus a job, accept to start from internship and rise with time.
Pursue a PhD course
Another better alternative is to continue with studies until PhD level. When you do this, you increase the chances of employment. With a PhD you can secure employment as a lecturer, consultant or a position relevant to your area of study.
Venture into business
If you get bored with looking for a job, you can as well be an entrepreneur. Venturing into business is what I will encourage you to do since you will be your own boss, where you define your future.
