The AESOP+ multidisciplinary and intersectorial Erasmus Mundus consortium co-coordinated by the University Paul Sabatier-Toulouse 3 (France) and the University of the Western Cape (South Africa) is a partnership composed by 10 European and 8 South African university partners, as well as six additional associate members.
AESOP+ involves eight thematic fields and encourages the collaboration between different sectors applied to cultural and natural heritage.

The AESOP Consortium will manage the partnership and will organize 95 mobilities (62 South African applicants and 33 European applicants in Master, Doctorate, Post Doctorate and Staff).

Scholarship information
The scholarship covers the following aspects:
- Monthly subsistence allowance
- Travel ticket
- Insurance
- Participation cost
More specifically:
Subsistence allowance:
- 1000 € per month for Master students
- 1500 € per month for doctorate students
- 1800 € per month for Post-doc students
- 2500 € per month for academic staff
Insurance costs:
- All grant holders are insured by a central Group Insurance
Participation costs:
- The tuition fees are covered by the project.
Travel costs:
- One return ticket. The amount allowed depends on the distance from the Home and the Host University.

Selection criteria
A candidate has to comply with all technical eligibility criteria such as nationality. Please check the eligibility criteria in the previous sections.
Files can be rejected by a host university initially for following reasons:
- Incomplete file: documents or information is missing
- Unfulfilled admission requirements: the admission requirements of the programme or university are not fulfilled
- Poor motivation
- Insufficient knowledge of language of instruction
- Profile of applicant does not match the requested programme: this applies to the academic profile of the applicant
- The total evaluation score given by the host university was not high enough to be granted a scholarship: the applicant was not rejected initially, but there were applicants with a higher score who obtained the scholarship
- The home faculty does not allow mobility in that academic semester/year: some faculties have a fixed semester or academic year in which mobility is allowed
- The requested programme is not available for this project: the programme is not on offer anymore, or cannot except additional candidates
- The applicant already obtained a scholarship for the same type of mobility under another project of the EMECW/EM Action 2 ): applicants can reapply for different projects but for a different type of mobility (Bachelor – Master – PhD – postdoc- staff)
The academic selection depends on the following factors:
- Academic merit 40%
- Language 30%
- Motivation 30%
Academic merit (40 points):
- for Master applicants: academic grades, relevant previous knowledge, additional qualifications or prices, involvement in research and/or publications
- for PhD applicants: coherence with research offer at the host university, research plan, publications, previous knowledge, additional qualifications or prices, academic grades
- for staff members: involvement in teaching assignments at the host university, activity plan for the exchange period, publications, benefits for students at the host university
Language capacity to follow courses, teach/do research at the host university (30 points):
- for Master applicants: to what extent does the applicant meet the language requirements of the host university
- for PhD applicants: to what extent does the applicant meet the language requirements of the host university
- for staff members (sustainability is also included here): language level, indication of benefits of the exchange for the home university, indication of international cooperation in the longer term
Motivation (30 points)
- for Master applicants: motivation to study at that university, indication of which courses/research to take there, awareness of the wider implication of a study period abroad for the home country, relevant recommendation letter
- for PhD applicants: motivation to do research at that university, awareness of the wider implications of the period abroad for the home country, relevant recommendation letter
- for staff members: exchange of expertise and experience on pedagogical methods, previous contacts with respect to the exchange, involvement in international activities or exchanges
Visa Process:
Please bear in mind that obtaining a visa might be a lengthy process.
Once you have received the official confirmation from the Partnership that you have been selected, you have to start the procedure to obtain a visa by approaching the embassy of your host country.
The international offices of home and host universities are best placed to advise you on how to proceed, if needed. In addition, they might liaise with the EU Delegations, Consulates and the Embassies of the relevant countries on your behalf.
