Do you know who the poorest MP in Kenya is? Well, Igembe South MP John Paul Mwirigi is the one.
Mirigi, 23, won the Igembe South Parliamentary seat despite spending less than Ksh 10,000 in campaigns. Through the sympathy of his subjects, the Mount Kenya third year student won the seat by a small margin, beating a couple of political heavyweights.
While other MPs are driving Toyota V8, Range Rover, Mercedes Benz and other eye catching fuel guzzlers, Mwirigi does not own a car, but he was lucky to have one courtesy of a well-wishers.
The Member of Parliament, who wore one sweater repeatedly during campaigns ,is waiting for parliament to give him compulsory car loan, which amounts to Ksh 10 million so as to purchase a car of his choice.Mwirigi will also wait until he earns his first salary so as to move from Eastlands to a reasonable house within Westlands, close to other Waheshimiwa.
The MP replaces Kiharu MP Irungu Kangata as the poorest MP in Parliament but his financial status will change significantly as he starts eating life with a big spoon.
