How to Set Internet for Airtel Lines in Kenya
Internet Settings (APN)
If you have switched from Safaricom to Airtel and wondering how to set the internet, here is the procedure of doing the same.
Before attempting to manually set up internet setting on your phone, send an SMS with the word ALL to 232. A message containing internet settings will be sent to your phone. Select “Save” from options to save all the settings.
Your phone is now configured to access the internet.
If the phone is not supported, you can manually set it up by selecting your phone models below:
- iOS 8 – iPhone 6 and 5
- Get to APN
- Press Settings.
- Press General.
- Press Mobile Data.
- Press Mobile Data Network.
- Configure the APN
- Press APN and key in internet.
iii. Browse
- Go to the browser and check whether you can browse.
- BLACKBERRY OS10
- Get to APN
- Go to the start screen. Scroll to the right. Choose Settings.
- Choose Network Connections.
- Choose Mobile Network.
- Enable Data Services.
- Choose the settings symbol.
- Configure the APN
- Under Access Point Name (APN), Enter internet, Under Password, enter nothing.
- Scroll down, Under Authentication Type choose None, Under Username enter nothing.
- Choose Save.
iii. Browse
- To return to the Start screen, (swipe up from the keyboard )
- Choose Browser
- You should be able to connect to the internet
- NOKIA RUNNING MICROSOFT WINDOWS OS
- Get to APN
- Slide your finger down the display starting from the top edge of your mobile phone.
- Press ALL SETTINGS.
- Press mobile + SIM.
- Press SIM settings.
- Press add Internet APN.
- Configure the APN
- Press the field below “APN” and key in internet.
- Press the field below “Proxy server (URL)” and leave it blank.
- Press the field below “Proxy port” and leave it blank.
- Save the data connection-Press the save icon.
iii. Browse
- Press the home icon to end the session and return to the Home screen.
- Go to the browser and start browsing.
- ANDROID OS-
- Get to the APN
- Tap the Menu key.
- Tap Settings.
- In the Wireless & networks section, tap more…
- Tap Mobile Networks.
- Tap Access Point Names.
- Tap the Menu key.
- Tap New APN.
- Configure the APN
Enter the following details:
- Name: Airtel Internet
- APN: internet
- Proxy: 172.30.9.8
- Port: 8080
- Username: Leave Blank
- Password: Leave Blank
- Server: Leave Blank
- MMSC: http://mms.ke.airtel.com:8002
- MMS Proxy: leave blank
- MMS Port: leave blank
- MCC: leave blank
- MNC: leave blank
- Authentication Type: PAP
- APN Type: mms
iii. Browse
- Select the Airtel Internet APN; it is a round box which needs to be selected. Once selected it will turn green and you will be able to use the internet and mms.
- Go to the Browser and start browsing.
- NOKIA RUNNING ANDROID OS
- Get to the APN
- Start screen. Choose Menu.
- Choose Settings, and then click Select.
- Scroll down. Choose Configuration, and then click Select.
- Scroll down. Choose Personal settings, and then click Select.
- If this screen appears, choose Add.
- If this screen does not appear, choose Options, Add new, and then Select.
- Choose Web, and then click Select.
- Configure the APN
- Choose Account name, click Select, enter Airtel Internet, and choose OK.
- Choose User name, click Select, leave blank, and choose OK.
- Choose Password, click Select, leave blank, and choose OK.
- Choose Use pref. access pt., Select, No, and then click Select.
- Choose Access point enter Internet. choose OK..
- Choose Proxy, Select, Disable, and then click Select.
- Choose Bearer settings, and then click Select.
- Choose Packet data acc. pt., Select, enter internet and choose OK.
- Choose Authentication type, Select, Normal, and then click Select.
- Choose User name, click Select, leave blank, and choose OK.
- Choose Password, Select, leave blank, choose OK, enter Airtel for the second time, and choose OK.
- Go back three times and find list of APNs.
- Choose Airtel Internet, Options, Activate, and then click Select. Return to the Start screen.
- Switch the Nokia X2 off and then on again to activate the settings.
iii. Browse
- Go to the Browser and start browsing.
- TECNO
- TECNO T342
- Get to APN
- Press settings.
- Press connectivity.
- Press Data Account.
- Press Options.
- Press edit/add PS Account/set as default configuration > add PS Account >
- Configure the APN
- Account Name=Airtel internet
- APN=internet
- Username=leave blank
- Password=leave blank
- Authentication type= PAP
- Then go to Advanced settings>Homepage:www.ke.airtellive.com
- Port=leave blank
- Save the settings.
- Then, go to Internet –> WAP –> Settings > Edit account
- Select the Airtel Internet account you already created and make it the default setting.
iii. Browse
- Go to browser and start browsing.
- ANDROID OS- TECNO R7
- Get to the APN
- Select Apps.
- Scroll to and select Settings.
- Select Mobile networks.
- Select Access Point Names.
- Select the Menu button.
- Select Reset to default-Your phone will reset to default Internet and MMS settings.
- Select the Menu button-Network problems should be solved at this point. Remember to turn off your Wi-Fi before testing. Please continue to the guide if you still cannot go online.
- Configure the APN
- Select New APN.
- Name: Airtel Internet
- APN: internet
- APN Type: leave blank
- Proxy: leave blank
- Port: leave blank
- Username: leave blank
- Password: leave blank
- Server: leave blank
- MMSC: leave blank
- Select the Menu button
- Select Save
- Select the Internet access point=Airtel Internet
- Your phone has now been set up to Internet
iii. Browse
- Select the Airtel Internet APN, it is a round box which needs to be selected – once selected it will turn green and you will be able to use the internet and mms.
- Go to the Browser and start browsing.
- Nokia Asha
- Get to the APN
- Go to Settings>Configuration>Personal settings and select Options>add new>web. You can leave the default access point name unchanged or rename it to anything you want.
- Configure the APN
- Go back and add new access point. You can leave the default access point name unchanged or rename it to anything you want. After this, select access point>bearer settings>internet.
- Go to Settings>Configuration>”Airtel” and select the personal config which was created in the above step.
iii. Browse
- Go back and click Airtel. Here you need to select the access point (e.g. “my access point”) which you have created manually as in the above step.
- Go to “default in all apps” and activate the created settings.
- Go to browser and start browsing

- Get to the APN
- Go to Start screen. Choose Menu
- Choose Settings, and then click Select.
- Scroll down. Choose Network, and then click Select.
- Choose Connections, and then click Select.
- Choose Yes.
- If this screen appears, choose New. If this screen does not appear, choose Options, New, and then Select.
- Configure the APN
- Under Set name, enter Airtel Internet. Under Home URL, enter www.ke.airtelive.com Choose Bearer, and the GPRS.
- Under Proxy, choose Off.
- Scroll down.
- Under Access name, enter internet.
- Under User ID, leave blank.
- Under Password, leave blank.
- Choose Save.
- Return to the Start screen.
- Start screen. Choose Menu.
- Choose Internet, Select, and then Options.
- Choose Settings, and then Select.
- Scroll down. Choose Internet profiles, and then Select.
- Choose Airtel Internet, and then Save. Return to the Start screen.
- Switch the Samsung Chat 333 off and then on again to activate the settings.
iii. Browse
- Go to the Browser and start browsing
- ITEL T342
- Get to the APN
- Select Menu
- Go to Internet/Service
- Select GPRS then Settings then WAP
- Configure the APN
Enter the following details:
- Account Name = Airtel Internet
- IP Address = leave blank
- Port = leave blank
- Username = leave blank
- Password = leave blank
- Access Point Name (APN) = internet
Save the settings
iii. Browse
- Then, go to Internet > WAP > Settings > Edit account
- Select the Airtel Internet account you already created and make it the default setting
- Restart your phone to activate the settings.
- Go to Browser and start browsing.
