The Standard Gauge Railway, which is managed by Kenya Railways, is set to increase fare prices starting 2018.
The newest trains currently charge Ksh700 per person for economic class and Ksh3, 000 in VIP category. The prices will shoot to at least Ksh900 for the economic class.
“The promotional Sh700 fare on standard gauge railway (SGR) train between Nairobi and Mombasa will be withdrawn next yea”,conformed Mr Maina,Kenya Railways MD.
Kenya Railways managing director Atanas Maina said the charges would be adjusted after a fresh review of the rail operations.
“We will review SGR train fares in the next one year after making an assessment of our operations when we have sufficient data about our customers and their preferences,” Mr Maina told the Business Daily.” Business Daily
