If you are operating a business in Nairobi or you are about to start one, you need a license from City Hall.
Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has warned that some City County staff and other fraudsters are colluding to defraud innocent Kenyans. He adds that these criminals position themselves outside City Hall where they target traders who come for business licenses.
“PUBLIC NOTICE ON LICENSE FEE:
I wish to warn members of the business community, PSV operators and the public in general that some corrupt City Hall staff and brokers stationing themselves outside city hall conspire with fraudsters purporting that they are at a position to waive or reduce license fee.
Such illegal payments are made in cash which they pocket and use fake cheques to pay city hall.
Recently, 2NK Sacco Staff and cityhall staff were arrested after they defrauded NCC of over Sh.2.2m. Two weeks ago over 10 suspects were again arraigned in court on same charges after being caught red-handed.
Investigations are ongoing and matatu Sacco officials are warned against such conspiracies but to make payments to NCC through the banks and not through brokers”, said Sonko
