We are in the month of Njaanuary where most of us are feeling the pinch already. We would not wish you to fall prey to cons and hurt your pockets anymore. I am sure many have received this message ‘plz nitumie ile pesa kwa hii no usitume kwa ile yangu iko na shinda upande wa m-pesa so nitumie kwa hii no plz’. Thieves, conmen and you will be surprised even relatives use funny tricks to get money and other valuables from you.

Below are some of the common lies that conmen use and have been testified by many people who ended up losing or almost lost cash

  1. A stranger appears from nowhere and extends hand. The moment you shake hands you give out everything you had and only realise you have been conned later after the person has disappeared. This is potion at work my friend never shake hands with strangers.
  2. Someone calling pretending to be Safaricom employee, tells you your line has got an m-pesa problem and requests for your pin and id number. Don’t disclose you pin details to anyone! Some send you false M-pesa messages and immediately follow up with a call requesting you to reverse the cash. Note that messages from M-pesa do not show any number but reads MPESA
  3. Phone calls usually from big companies telling you that you have won some promotions and you are required to in head office to pick your present.be aware of what is happening in some of these companies and enquire from their customer service before you take any step.
  4. Trending online loans where you are advised to send 300shillings for credit check don’t dare send any money!
  5. Asking job seekers some for some cash to prepare work permit or bribe for the employer. Mostly these people make you believe that they are very well connected to the employer but are not even employed in the first place.
  6. Selling items resembling the ones you know at a very cheap price. These are usually fake products disguised as the normal ones.
  7. There are these people posting adverts in social media .Once you send cash requesting for items, they text back ‘let’s share what you got from your sponsor!
  8. People who call themselves men of God and requires you to’ panda mbegu ’if you want to receive a miracle within 3 days.
  9. Some have been asked to give the last four digits usually found at the back of an ATM card so they can assisted to apply for Green card. These last digits covered with silver are your signature and gives access to your account, utaibiwa!
  10. A beautiful lady approaches you looking desperate and distressed, requests you to assist her with your phone so she can contact someone because she is lost and her phone battery is off. This way she will take your number and track you with a gang
