Hypertension (high blood pressure) is a dangerous medical condition which occurs when the force of the blood against the arteries and other blood vessels is too high. One of the main causes of hypertension is consuming too much salt. Although required by the body, sodium has numerous negative effects on our health and can seriously damage your health. Here are 4 signs your body sends when you’re consuming far too much salt:
Thirst
If you’re often thirsty and your mouth is dry all of the time, you are probably consuming too much salt. Excess sodium in the body causes water imbalance in the body and dehydrates your tissues, resulting in constant thirst.
Headaches
According to one study, people who consume 3500 mg. of sodium per day are more prone to headaches. Headaches are closely related to high blood pressure, but they may affect you even in cases of normal blood pressure. If you’re often suffering from one, we suggest eliminating salt from your diet for a while and see if the condition improves.
Frequent urination
The urge to urinate comes after drinking a big amount of water, but the same can happen in cases of too much salt. Excess sodium in the body will make the kidneys work harder while trying to remove it which will result in frequent trips to the bathroom.
Brain fog
As we already mentioned, too much sodium can dehydrate the body and affect our ability to think, a condition known as brain fog.
In order to eliminate the excess sodium from your body, we suggest drinking more water. In this way, the body will stay in balance and keep the sodium levels in check. The RDA (recommended daily allowance) of sodium is 2300 mg. a day and you should stick to it – anything more than that and you it may cause numerous problems.
