One of my readers inquired whether there are bloggers who make over Ksh1 million per months in Kenya.I opted to answer him in this article.
While making Ksh1 million as a blogger is not a mean feat, there is a couple of bloggers who pull in this cash. One known blogger is Ghafla Kenya’s owner Samuel Majani.Majani, who is the pioneer of blogging in the country pockets in excess of Ksh 2 million each month.
It’s only Majani who has banked over Ksh1 million each month. However, there are a number of blogs owned by institutions that rake in upwards of Ksh5 million:they include tuko.co.ke,standardmedia.co.ke and nation.co.ke.Currently,Standard media leads with a monthly income in excess of Ksh 10 million. The company owns sde.co.ke and standardmedia.co.ke
Kenyan Post, which is owned by Timothy Obare Rioba makes the Kisii man over Ksh 350,000 per month. Other thriving blogs include Kenyans.co.ke,softkenya.com and a couple of others.
Since most bloggers in the country solely depend on AdSense, making upwards of Ksh 1 million is a hard task.AdSense income is dependent on the amount of traffic a blog receives, niche and number of clicks. It’s one unforgiving source of income for struggling bloggers. If you check on Alexa and realize a blog is listed among top 10,000 blogs in the world, that blog makes over Ksh 300,000 per month.Since most blogs are ranked below 100,000,their owners never make beyond Ksh 100,000.
The reason many bloggers in Kenya are struggling to make a living is because they heavily rely on AdSense.I can tell from my own experience that there are bloggers in UK,India and UK who have diversified their income-they don’t rely on AdSense. Their blogs receive below 100,000 views per month yet they make over Ksh1 million in that period. These bloggers heavily rely on affiliate marketing, which is the surest source of recurring income. Venas News is one of the blogs in the country that rely heavily on affiliate income…we regret why we didn’t start early.
In affiliate marketing it doesn’t matter whether 1 million or 1 person views your blog, what matters is how many sales you make. There is a day you can wake up in good spirit and luck, you make five sales and rake in over Ksh500,000.You can wake up the following day and make nothing. But with time, as you build content and your audience grows, you will make steady income.
