Anwar Saddat,a popular Facebooker and an Engineer based in Germany has alleged that Kisumu County bought fire fighting engines donated to Meru County for Ksh200 million. His Facebook post which attracted the attention of the whole country read:
Two days ago, Governor Nyong’o communication team led by Eddy Illah, posted on Facebook that Governor Nyong’o had acquired fire fighting equipment from the United Kingdom.
The office of Governor further explained to a standard newspaper reporter that the equipment were acquired at a cost of Kshs 200 million (Snapshot of the article attached).
There was a vigorous debate in a Meru social media forum how come fire fighting equipment that was donated to the people of Meru (The tags on the fire trucks clearly shows they are for the people of Meru) had found themselves in Kisumu County where the Governor was claiming to have bought them for Kshs 200 million.
These vigilant Kenyans reached out to us to verify how and when the County Government of kisumu acquired those trucks.
Having been cornered, the County Government of kisumu quickly organized the rebranding of the fire trucks (You can see the Misungu covering the Meru decal with a Kisumu decal sticker) to the bewilderment of residents who were gathered there.
The County Government of kisumu must come out and clearly explain to the people of kisumu how Kshs 200 million was used to acquire firefighting equipment that was donated to the people of Meru. Did they buy the equipment from the County Government of Meru? And if so, when?
Devolution must be made to work for our people. We cannot continue to accuse Jubilee for corruption at the National level and keep quite when the County Governments continue to siphon money meant to empower our people.
From Homabay, Migori, to Siaya, there is a unanimous agreement among our people that Devolution is NOT achieving its intended objectives. We must change this by holding to account and exposing those who want to harvest from places they never planted any seeds.
We hope that Nyong’o and his office will clarify this issue. Hio maneno that Raila okelo Devolution wayako must not be tolerated.
Disclaimer: Though my personal differences with Nyong’o is well known from 1992, this post is not motivated by such differences but by the desire to make Devolution work for our people.
Is this corruption or not?!!!
