There is a serious war between Buyer Beware Admin Mildred Owiso and activist Ndungu Nyoro. The bitter exchange started yesterday after Mr Nyoro posted a story on his Facebook page which attracted huge attention from Kenyans. The story went like this:
*REPOST*
Heartbroken. NAIROBI WOMENS again.
“Hello everyone,
My names are Chrispus Kilonzo online Taxi driver for the last 3years.
My wife by the name Josephine Kathiu fell sick on 14th of April and was admitted at St Marys Hospital. On 16th she was referred to Nairobi Women’s Hospital where she was taken straight to the ICU ward. After a week the bill accrued to kshs 650,000/=. I borrowed a title deed and log book form my friend as security so as to have her transfered to Kenyatta hospital. But they refused.
She stayed there for a month and was transferred to general ward, stayed for another one week. Doctors informed me that all was well and she can be discharged soon.
On the 10th of June I stayed with her until 10pm and she was well. She even told me to come early the next day. At 10am I received a phone call from the hospital informing me of her demise. When I reached the hospital they told me that they found her unresponsive.
I didnt believe and I still don’t believe that my wife passed away under such uncertain ways. I still feel like the hospital has robbed me dearly of someone that I truly love.
To add to it they gave me a bill of kshs. 2,998,000/-, which I have to pay in order for them to release the body which is there until now.
I’m kindly appealing to any of you who have seen this post to assist me in any way financially or even just by passing this message along to someone who you know can assist me so that I can lay my wife to rest.
You can get in touch with me via messenger or call me on 0748601004.
Paybill account for well wishers is 902065 account name is the name of the person sending.
Thank you for your time,l will be thankful for your assistance.many God bless you as you plan to assist me.”

After few hours,Ndungu confirmed that the hospital had agreed to release the body after his intervention. But in a twist of events, Mildred called Ndungu seeking him not to ‘touch his case’.Apparently, Mildred was the one who highlighted the story on his Buyer Beware page. As of yesterday, she had raised a total of Ksh1.2 million through contributions from her followers.
Those who knew what was happening behind the scene intimate that Ndungu had heard that there was a big case being handled by Mildred. Being connected and with a huge following on Facebook, he decided to jump into the case so that he can receive credit. They argue that it’s not possible for Ndungu to highlight a case in the morning and in the evening things are sorted out.
One of Ndungu’s followers wrote:
“Joey Gathoni You are such a selfish idiot, fundraising happens elsewhere and you take all the credit??? ati how did NN know about this, what fuckerry is this? Go to hell, bloody idiot you’ve really pissed many of us off, unakuanga buyer beware ukingoja mchango ifanyike ukuje upost huku, and I’m sure maybe a few of your minions contributed to this ukakula pesa juu ulikua ushajua BB wamefikisha 1m so no need to hustle as you’ll definitely take credit, thie ukamiè ndurika inô, kasia hii”
Another follower replied:
“Rosemary Wangui There ‘s no doubt that you have assisted so many needy cases. However there are very many initiatives out there and many other people supporting. On this case, you needed to acknowledge Mildred cos she did exactly what you do. She picked up this case for NWH and mobilized funds and did all she could to help the family. Why was it necessary for you to make that post? It was in bad faith. Anyway, continue doing the good work but appreciate others when they do the same”
There are also several other comments not included in this posts. It’s clear that Ndungu jumped into the case when it was almost complete and he didn’t acknowledge Mildred who had worked tirelessly to see the body of the deceased released.
Why exactly are these two people fighting? The answer is clear—they need funds from donors to run their activities. When an activist wins a case against a hospital like Nairobi Women’s Hospital, they are offered several opportunities that include donations from the government. That’s the money they use to run their activities.
