Pauline Njoroge had good intentions; she wanted to show that Jubilee is overworking only for her to meet the wrath of Kenyans. In a Facebook post, she wrote:
“I am in awe after seeing samples of the upcoming affordable houses! My! This is gonna be a game changer! Beautiful houses with connectivity, gas reticulation, open spaces for kids to play, social amenities and security. Better still, they are build using green technology And you can imagine a 3 bedroom house will be going for not more than 3 million, all over the country. Plus there is a good payment plan being put in place. Days of paying obscene amounts to own a house will be a thing of the past. The cost of houses in Nairobi and the whole country will go down automatically.
According to the world back report, for every new house, we are going to create 3-5 permanent new jobs thus housing will be a major contributor in job creation thus supporting the manufacturing pillar. The government’s one million housing target has the potential to double our GDP in the next few years. That means more money in our pockets even for those in businesses that are not linked to the construction industry. Just like in the days of Kenya coffee boom (1976-79), we are going to experience a construction boom and fool proof measures have been put in place to ensure that it is the ordinary mwananchi who will own these houses.
I have never been so optimistic about the future of this country. Fixing healthcare, making the country food secure, creating good permanent jobs and making housing affordable and available will alleviate pain at the household level and put the country squarely on the path to attaining a mid-income economy status by 2030. Once again, I will say, the President has a plan, a solid plan for this country. The doubting Thomases will catch up with the vision soon. It’s all seems impossible until it’s done”
For the first time in years, Pauline’s post received over 300 comments and all of them negative. Some of them read:
James Kuria The road to hell is paved with good intentions. And no government has perfected this better than jubilee government. I bet that this will be a scam of monumental proportion. Is there public participation in all this? What is the priority for the moment to a poor struggling country like Kenya which can’t afford affordable cancer treatment machine worth just a few millions? A country that can’t feed itself where eggs al, fish and almost everything else is imported from Uganda, TX and China yet agriculture contributed to almost 60%of the jobs? Our neighbor Ethiopia has massively invested in agriculture and the results are beginning to show. In Kenya, if it can’t be stolen, it’s not worthy it. That is why a non impactful housing scam is hyped and priotised more than agriculture or health. And that is after stealing money meant for ferterliser, pesticides and fake maize
James Mukuria Did you say the housing project has the potential to double our GDP in the next few years? It seems economics has just evolved, or mutated, under Jubilee.
Good Lord! What were you thinking when writing this?
Muthithe Kagondu In paperwork it’s amazing, that’s just a plan, but wait for the plan to be implemented, we have come to apoint where we will be believing what we are seeing on the ground. What happened to konza City,
Githua Kihara Your optimism comes from the hand you feed from. Government employees can still put some food on their table while the government milks everyone else dry to satisfy this going-nowhere-legacy. Someone just read today’s Sunny Bindras column.
As naive as Pauline Njoroge ,ama u r just a sycophant? Who will benefit with these houses? Hope u remember the ngara project. We don’t need govt houses but a country free of corruption
