Taj Mall is one of the buildings that stand on road reserve land and the owner is known to all Kenyans. In 2011 Rameshchandra Govind Gorasia invited the then Kenya’s Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka to launch the mall. Before the party was over, he was informed that the Ksh 3 billion mall was earmarked for demolition to create space for the expansion of Outering Road.
Rameshchandra Govind Gorasia was forced to sell it off to another individual who managed to convince the government to divert the route so that the mall can survive. The mall was renamed to Airgate Centre—-that’s how it survived.
Due to the existence of the mall, the expansion of the Outering Road has not been completed because the space left isn’t enough for the road. What next?
