If you want to convert a foreign driving license in Kenya,here is the procedure to follow:

 STEP 1: CREATE A TIMS ACCOUNT

  • Log onto ntsa.go.ke
  • Click on TIMS logo
  • Click on Subscribe to receive an SMS ( Send an SMS to 22847 to subscribe)
  • Click on register account menu and proceed to create the account.
  • Provide the Serial number of the identification card ( Pease note, do not enter the Identification number)
  • Enter the Mother’s name and KRA PIN number
  • Provide all necessary information required in order to create the account.

DISCLAIMER

When registering a TIMS Account, ensure the information provided (National ID number, KRA PIN, Certificate No. and Mobile Number) belongs to the owner of the account. All codes and passwords shall be sent to the number provided. It is prudent that all information relating to the account is not disclosed to any other party. NTSA shall not be liable for any transactions within your account.

STEP TWO : APPLICATION PROCESS

  • Click on Driving Licence Menu
  • Click on Apply For Smart DL
  • Fill in the required information, attach the necessary documentation required as listed below
  • Make payment of Kshs.3050 for 3 years renewal and submit the application
  • Book an appointment for personal biometrics data capture
  • As SMS will be sent to the mobile number provided indicating when and where the individual will visit for enrolment ( data capture)
  1. A) FOREIGNERS WITH ALIEN IDENTIFICATION CARD

A foreigner is a person belonging to or owing allegiance to a foreign country who is in a possession of a valid Kenyan Alien Card. The Foreign driver shall create an account on

TIMS and make an application by attaching the following scanned documents. The category of vehicles that cannot be converted for foreigners are D1, D2, D3, C1, C, CD, E, G and CE

  • Valid Foreign or international driving permit
  • Letter of confirmation from the authorized licensing authority of the home country
  • Valid work permit
  • Valid Alien card
  • Valid passport
  1. B) KENYAN CITIZENS

The Kenyan Driver shall create an account on TIMS and make an application by attaching the following scanned documents. All the categories of vehicles in the foreign driving license for a Kenyan citizen will be converted.

  • Valid Foreign or international driving permit
  • Letter of confirmation from the authorized licensing authority of the home country
  • Valid national identification card
  • Valid passport
  1. C) DIPLOMATIC CONVERSIONS

The Diplomatic Driver shall create an account on TIMS and make an application by attaching the following scanned documents. The category of vehicles that cannot be converted for diplomats are D1, D2, D3, C1, C, CD, E, G and CE

  • Valid diplomatic card
  • Dully filled application Form VII authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (see appendix 1B)
  • Valid Foreign or international driving license
  • Valid passport
