Reports indicate that former Vice President and NASA principal Kalonzo Musyoka is joining Ruto’s coalition Kenya Kwanza Alliance. Yesterday, social media rumours spread fast and wide that Kalonzo was in Ruto’s Karen resident.Tangatanga bloggers were excited to learn that the big fish is coming their side.
But sources close to Kalonzo intimate that he is not yet decided where to join.Initially,he had negotiated with Uhuru and Raila where he demanded Ksh3billion to Ksh5 billion in order to support Raila.But his request was rejected.
Ruto approached Kalonzo last week and they agreed to meet yesterday.The meeting was held in Karen and it lasted 2 hours.But details of their meeting are not yet in public domain.
What we understand is that Kalonzo is now aged 70 years ,meaning that if he supports Ruto,he won’t vie for president anymore—by the time Ruto is finishing his second term Kalonzo will be aged 80.The former VP may eventually join Raila with the hope of being supported by Raila after 2027.Raila has already indicated that he will only go for one term.
One observation we have made is that all Kamba leaders are supporting Raila.If Kalonzo joins Ruto,he may not shift with a good number of Kamba voters—he can even be replaced as the Kamba Kingpin.The best decision is to join Raila.
It’s a matter of time before we know his stand.
