Let’s not get to the list.
1. Victor Wanyama
A central or defensive midfielder, Wanyama currently plays for the Kenya national team as well as CF Montreal in the MLS. He moved to Canada after 4 years playing for Premier League club, Tottenham Hotspur. He was a part of the squad that made it to the UEFA Champions League final in the 2018-19 season, and he is the first Kenyan to score in a UEFA Champions League game, the historic goal coming against one of the biggest clubs in European football, FC Barcelona.
2. Michael Olunga
The striker plays for Al-Duhail in Qatar and is the captain of the Kenya national team. Olunga is a prolific goal scorer who has done it both home and abroad.
He had a loan spell at Girona in 2017, and during that period, he became the first Kenyan and also the first Girona player to score a La Liga hat-trick. Very impressive!
3. Clarke Oduor
While these other guys we’ve mentioned are veterans, Clarke Oduor is the present and future of Kenyan football. Oduor currently plays for Barnsley in England and was instrumental to their avoiding relegation during the 2019-20 season.
While he was born in Kenya, Oduor was raised in England and could play for the Three Lions if he wanted, but he decided to represent his country of birth and committed his future to the Kenya national team in 2020.
4. Dennis “The Menace” Oliech
Dennis is one guy we just could not leave out of this list. Although he is now retired, he is still considered one of the best strikers to ever come out of Kenya. And with a name like “The Menace”, it’s not at all surprising that he was so good in front of goal. He still remains the second highest-goalscorer in the history of the Kenya national team.
5. Divock Origi
Although he was born in Belgium and represents the Belgium national team, the former Liverpool man is of Kenyan origins and the Kenyans claim him.
His father, uncles, and cousin all play or played for the Kenya national team, and Divock himself speaks fluent Swahili.
Having won the UEFA Champions League, the Premier League, the FA Cup, and a number of other trophies, Divock Origi remains one of the most successful players of Kenyan origin of all time.
He is also the first player of Kenyan origins to score in a World Cup game after he did so back in 2014 for Belgium.
Origi really took the Kenyan flag and flew it high in Europe.
Other notable stars of Kenyan football include Arnold Origi, John “Bobby” Ogolla, Tyler Onyango, and Jonah Ayunga.
