Naturally ,we the Luo people, are full of melanin. That’s us. Who we are. But men like Nick Odhiambo and other men in my community have made it very hard for Luo women to exist in their natural skin. It is no wonder you visit Kisumu on a sunny Monday and you find women with all kinds of complexion. Indigo face, black hands, purple legs, violet necks…..Bleaching is a serious menace in Nyanza. Almost like a crisis. All because people like Nick Odhiambo made us believe that black is ugly.
I hear Odhis wedded. The last time I checked, he had a Kikuyu wife with whom he had a case of domestic violence. I don’t know the name of the one he has today. But I just love her. Because she has come with a very big blessing.
