Is blogging dead in 2025?

57

There are millions of people asking whether blogging will still be a viable venture in 2025. Many are wondering whether it’s dead or alive. The truth of the matter is, blogging is dead. Google killed blogging in 2024 when they changed their algorithm to favour authority sites and forums. Their AI overviews also buried blogging career, completely. All we are doing now is mourning and soon we will move on.

There are several reasons why you should not start a blog in 2025:

AI overviews

AI overviews summarize results from blogs such that when a visitor goes through the overviews, they don’t have to visit any of the websites to get the information—everything is summarized by the overviews. Websites will get zero traffic as Google steals 100% of traffic from them.

Google wants to keep visitors on their platform than directing them to blogs.

Competition from other platforms

There was a time blogs were dominating search results, it’s not the case today. I believe you have noticed that when searching for an item on Google, you will get answers from LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. This is indeed bad news to blogs. Your blog posts for most of the keywords won’t be on the front page of Google because of the stiff competition from social media and YouTube.

Visitors prefer videos over text

It’s now clear that visitors prefer video over text. When they search for content on Google, they are more likely to watch a video than read a blog post. This is the reason Google has started ranking YouTube videos higher than blog articles.

Biasness towards authority sites

The May and August Google Algorithms favoured authority sites. No matter how hard you work as a blogger, your content cannot be ranked higher than content from authority sites. It’s therefore useless to start a blog in 2025.

Forums

Forums like Quora, Medium and Reddit are dominating the search results. If you write an article similar to content on those forums, your content won’t even be indexed.

Google clearly indicated that people want to read first hand experiences from other readers, which is why the company is focused more on forums.

Indexing

It seems Google stopped indexing all the content available in blog posts. I remember 10 years ago, I could post an article on my blog and it’s indexed within seconds Nowadays, it takes up to a month for an article to appear on Google. Worse still, most blogs are blacklisted by Google such that no matter the quality of your posts, they won’t be indexed. It’s worrying that ever since May 2024 there are articles not indexed as of today.

Low income

AdSense is not paying as well as they used to pay a couple of years ago. The CPC used to be high but today it’s too low. To make $1000 you need millions of views to your blog.

Google want to keep all visitors on their platforms

Google doesn’t want to send traffic to independent blogs. Since they own YouTube, they want to keep visitors to Google on YouTube. Even if your blog has the best content, it won’t rank higher than similar content on YouTube.

You will also notice that when you visit Google, their first page is dominated by sponsored items which match your keywords. Since you have already gotten what you wanted on Google, why visit a blog?!

How to survive as a blogger in 2025

To survive as a blogger in 2025, these are the things to do:

Sell an item

Instead of creating content for Google to earn from AdSense, start selling items. When Google discovers that you are a business, they will start ranking your articles higher on their platforms.

Start a forum

Start a forum like Reddit where people contribute and give opinion about specific topics. Your forum will rank highly on Google.

Create a news site

News sites ae currently performing well, they were not affected much. Create a blog for providing latest news. You will make a lot of money from it.

Don’t rely on Google for traffic

Your main source of traffic should not be Google. Have a presence on social media where you share your content.

Be an expert in whatever you do

Google nowadays prefer bloggers who are expert in their area. If you are a university lecturer, start educational bog, if you are a medical doctor, start a blog about health, if you are a lawyer, start a blog about law. Don’t try to do everything at the same time—you will confuse Google.

This means that you should start a niche blog where you post content as an expert in that topic.

Start a YouTube channel

Don’t waste your time creating a blog, just start a YouTube channel. This way,you are assured of your future.
