A Kisii man based in the US is in tears after discovering that a 52-unit apartment project he was heavily funding in Kikuyu was actually being built on his mother-in-law’s land in Thindigua not on the couple’s jointly owned plot.
The man and his wife, both healthcare professionals, had moved to Minnesota in 2023. They agreed he would fund the apartment construction while she handled their child and household needs.
She later traveled to Kenya to oversee the start of the project, even sharing a photo of a ground-breaking ceremony with her mother and a pastor.
He continued sending funds for the build, believing it was on their land. But weeks ago, a call from a neighbor in Kikuyu changed everything. The land remained undeveloped. When confronted, the wife admitted she had used her mother’s plot in Thindigua, saying it was more “prime.”
The shock deepened when she declared she wanted a divorce, citing “incompatibility” a move supported by her mother and the same pastor who had blessed the fake groundbreaking.
And just when he thought things couldn’t get worse, he discovered messages between his wife and a popular Mugithi singer, suggesting a romantic affair.
The man is said to be emotionally devastated, unsure how to proceed with the legal, emotional, and financial mess.
