Catherine Nyamato is dead. The former Nominated MP died in her Kijauri home.
Hon. Catherine Nyamato was a seasoned Kenyan politician and women’s rights advocate from the Nyamira region-West Mugirango. She rose to national prominence during the Moi era as a nominated MP (1997–2002), where she boldly championed women’s rights, fought against harmful cultural practices like FGM, and pushed for gender equality in leadership. Known for her fearless voice in a male-dominated space, she also served as Secretary-General of the League of Kenya Women Voters and has remained active in politics, recently vying for the Nyamira Woman Representative seat. Her legacy continues to inspire women across Kenya to seek leadership and challenge societal norms.
Sources claim that bodaboda people wanted to build a shade in her land by force. When she tried to stop them,a commotion ensured. She fainted and died.
