KANU has declared its support for Uhuru’s bid for a second term as president. The party will ensure he gets continued support and votes in the rift valley region come August.

This was after the president met Mzee Moi , KANU chairman Gideon Moi, and West Pokot Senator John Lonyangapuo. This meeting took place at Moi’s residence in Nairobi.  The meeting was previously labelled a meeting with his political mentors. Mama Ngina too had visited Mzee Moi a few weeks before the president did.

“The president discussed a lot of issues with mzee. Most importantly, he sort his support and in turn Mzee asked him to ensure the elections would not drift the nation apart.” Stated Lonyangapuo.

KANU will therefore hold its National Executive Council meeting on Tuesday next week where the issue of candidacy will be discussed.

The former ruling party had supported Uhuru’s presidential bid in the previous elections too.It is anticipated that the Jubilee party will seek a way forward and strategize.

This merge could lead to political tension in the rift valley regions as KANU and Jubilee candidates contend for the same seats. Like say the battle for Elgeyo Marakwet senate seat. Jubilee’s Kipchumba Murkomen will go against KANU’s David Kimaiyo. The two parties are optimistic that all shall be well.

KANU has a lot of influence in the Rift Valley region which is an area of interest to the opposition too. During the NASA inauguration at the Bomas of Kenya, KANU secretary general Nick Salat was in attendance. He admitted that KANU would support NASA.  This remarks led to mixed reaction as several of his party members rubbished his move. This therefore showed how much NASA sort the party’s support.
